Así se vivieron los Video Music Awards de MTV

Los premios del famoso canal estadounidense que celebran los mejores videos del año y que se llevaron a cabo en Nueva York celebraron su edición número 40. Los premios consagraron a Lil Nas X y Olivia Rodrigo tras su regreso al Barclays Center de Brooklyn, después del reducido espectáculo del año pasado por la pandemia.

Además de que ocurrieron grandes y simbólicos sucesos como el hecho de que Madonna presentara los premios, después de que el 14 de septiembre de 1981, hace 40 años también diera la bienvenida oficial a los mismos. También se dieron importantes declaraciones en torno al empoderamiento femenino. Como por ejemplo, cuando la cantante Cyndi Lauper salió al escenario y emocionada compartió con la audiencia: "gané un Moon Person en 1984. Las cosas son un poco diferentes ahora. Sí, las chicas quieren divertirse. Pero también queremos tener fondos e igualdad de salarios, control sobre nuestros cuerpos. Y ya saben, derechos fundamentales".

Más tarde, el actor Billy Porter salió al escenario y dijo: "cuando empezaba en esto, el mundo no estaba preparado para mí, pero me da mucha alegría ser testigo de los cambios". Y a continuación presentó al cantante Lil Nas X, quien vestido con pantalones rosados se subió al escenario para cantar "Industry Baby" y "Montero”. El cantante obtuvo el premio más importante de la noche, en la categoría “Video del Año”, por “Montero (Call Me by Your Name)”. Al respecto, este se pronunció diciendo: “Gracias a la agenda gay, ¡vamos agenda gay!”. 

Doja Cat fue la anfitriona del espectáculo, y también interpretó “Been Like This” y “You Right” mientras descendía de las vigas del techo en un acto aéreo. Pero fue el performance de Normani de “Wild Side” el que se robó la noche. La estrella sorprendió con su coreografía antes de unirse a Teyana Taylor, atada a una plataforma de metal en un homenaje a actos pasados de Janet Jackson.

Olivia Rodrigo obtuvo tres premios, entre ellos Canción del Año por “Drivers License” y Mejor Artista Nuevo. “Me siento tan agradecida de poder hacer música y hacer las cosas que amo; lo llamo mi trabajo”, dijo la joven. Por su parte, Justin Bieber ganó el premio Artista del Año junto con el Mejor Pop por “Peaches”. La banda coreana BTS obtuvo el premio al Mejor K-pop por “Butter”.
